A newly surfaced U.S. military video is reigniting debate over unidentified aerial phenomena after showing what appears to be a weapons-grade targeting system locking onto an object over Syria that then performed maneuvers military analysts say defy known aviation capabilities.
The footage, recorded in 2021 but only recently released to the public, comes from an MQ-9 Reaper drone operating under U.S. Central Command near the Jordan-Syria border—an area long known for high tensions and heavy surveillance activity.
At first glance, the operation appeared routine. The Reaper, a high-end surveillance and strike platform, was conducting standard patrol duties when its Multi-Spectral Targeting System detected an unidentified object in infrared and proceeded to track it with precision. According to the system’s classification, the lock achieved was a weapons-quality targeting solution—technology normally used to guide precision munitions such as Hellfire missiles onto moving targets.
In other words, this was not incidental observation. It was a confirmed, stable tracking lock by one of the most advanced military drone systems in existence.
