For years, former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters became one of the biggest symbols of the political war surrounding the 2020 election.
Now the woman many conservatives viewed as a political prisoner is headed for release after Colorado Governor Jared Polis commuted her sentence in a stunning move that has already ignited outrage on the Left and celebration across conservative circles.
According to reports, Peters will walk free on June 1 after Polis cut her prison sentence in half, opening the door for early parole under Colorado law.
The dramatic reversal comes after years of accusations that Peters was unfairly targeted by prosecutors for attempting to preserve election system records connected to the disputed 2020 presidential election.
Peters, a Gold Star Mother with declining health, had been serving a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted in a case tied to election system data access. Conservatives blasted the prosecution from the start, arguing the punishment was wildly excessive for a nonviolent offender with no criminal history.
