Republican voters may have already signaled who they want to lead the party into the 2028 presidential race, according to a new survey released this week. Vice President JD Vance holds a commanding lead, though Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been steadily gaining traction, The Center Square reports.
“The poll surveyed 952 Republicans and 225 independents who lean Republican across the country, asking them to choose from 15 prominent figures in conservative politics or select ‘someone else’ or ‘not sure,’” the outlet explained.
Vance dominated the field, earning 36% of first-choice support. This nearly doubled the backing for Donald Trump Jr., who came in second at 19%. Another 14% of respondents were undecided, capturing the top 70% of the surveyed voters, the report added.
Compared to October’s Voters’ Voice Poll, both Vance and Trump Jr. saw slight declines, while Rubio’s numbers climbed. Rubio now holds 9% overall, positioning him third among the options and making him the second-most popular pick among independent voters.
