“It’s been mass terror, and we’re not going to put up with it any longer,” Trump said bluntly.
The president also placed renewed focus on Iran’s support for Hamas, which carried out the October 7 massacre in Israel. Trump emphasized that American citizens were among the victims and hostages taken in the assault.
“And it was Iran’s proxy, Hamas, that launched the monstrous October 7th attacks on Israel, slaughtering more than 1,000 innocent people—including 46 Americans—while taking 12 of our citizens hostage. It was brutal—something like the world has never seen before.”
Central to the president’s justification for military action was Iran’s nuclear program. Trump reiterated his long-standing position that Tehran must never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon.
“Iran is the world’s number one state sponsor of terror… It has always been the policy of the United States—particularly my administration—that this terrorist regime can never have a nuclear weapon. I’ll say it again: they can never have a nuclear weapon.”
He referenced last year’s “Operation Midnight Hammer,” claiming it crippled key nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. According to Trump, Iran resumed its nuclear and missile development efforts after rejecting diplomatic overtures.
“We are going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground. It will be totally—again—obliterated.”
The president warned that the campaign would not be limited to missile sites. He vowed to dismantle Iran’s naval forces and neutralize terrorist proxies across Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.
At the same time, Trump acknowledged the gravity of war and the risks facing American troops.
“Even so—and I do not make this statement lightly—the Iranian regime seeks to kill. The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties. That often happens in war. But we’re doing this not for now—we’re doing this for the future—and it is a noble mission.”
In a dramatic moment, Trump issued a direct ultimatum to Iran’s military and security forces:
“To the members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, the armed forces, and all of the police, I say tonight: you must lay down your weapons and have complete immunity—or, in the alternative, face certain death.”
He repeated the warning for emphasis:
“So lay down your arms. You will be treated fairly, with total immunity—or you will face certain death.”
Perhaps the most striking portion of the address was his message to the Iranian people themselves. Trump urged civilians to stay indoors as operations intensify, then called on them to seize what he framed as a historic opportunity.
“Finally, to the great, proud people of Iran, I say tonight that the hour of your freedom is at hand. Stay sheltered. Don’t leave your homes. It’s very dangerous outside. Bombs will be dropping everywhere.”
“When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will probably be your only chance for generations.”
Trump closed by invoking faith and American military strength, expressing confidence that U.S. forces would prevail.
“May God bless the brave men and women of America’s Armed Forces. May God bless the United States of America. May God bless you all.”
With American forces now engaged and the world watching closely, the president has made clear that this operation is not a limited strike, but a defining moment in U.S. policy toward Iran. Whether it reshapes the Middle East or triggers wider conflict remains to be seen.
