Federal immigration officials say the suspect, a Venezuelan national now facing multiple felony charges, never should have been free to roam American communities in the first place. The shocking details have reignited outrage over the administration’s “catch and release” system and the flood of illegal crossings that exploded under former DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and former President Joe Biden.
According to authorities, Wualter Jesus Travieso Soto entered the United States illegally during the border surge of 2023. Instead of being detained and deported, he was reportedly processed by immigration officials and released into the country with little more than paperwork and a future court date.
Soto eventually landed in Flathead County, Montana, where he began living with a woman and her three children. What started as another quiet relocation story tied to the administration’s immigration pipeline would later unravel into a nightmare for one grieving family.
The woman reportedly died in a car accident in 2024, leaving her children in Soto’s custody. Family members later became alarmed after discovering disturbing material on Soto’s phone involving the eldest daughter. That discovery triggered an investigation that quickly escalated into allegations of repeated sexual abuse and violence.
Police say the young girl later revealed the full extent of what she had allegedly endured. Investigators accused Soto of sexually assaulting her multiple times and physically attacking her, including choking incidents that prosecutors say left lasting trauma.
