“We’re actively looking at everybody we come across in this case, everybody. It would be irresponsible if we didn’t talk to everybody,” Nanos said. “Everybody is still a suspect in our eyes.”
Investigators laid out a chilling timeline of events from the night Guthrie disappeared. According to law enforcement, she arrived home at approximately 9:48 p.m. Just two minutes later, her garage door closed. That moment marks the last confirmed indication that she was inside her residence.
“That time, we assume that Nancy’s home and probably going to bed,” Nanos said.
Several hours later, technology that normally tracked activity around the home began to fail. At roughly 1:47 a.m., Guthrie’s doorbell camera went offline. Around 2:12 a.m., the system registered a motion alert. However, officials noted that there was no video subscription in place, making it impossible to determine whether the alert was triggered by a person, an animal, or something else entirely.
Roughly 40 minutes after the camera lost connection, Guthrie’s pacemaker also disconnected from its linked phone application. Investigators have not explained whether the device failure was accidental or deliberate, but the timing has raised serious concerns.
The alarm was raised later that morning. Family members realized something was wrong at approximately 11:56 a.m. when Guthrie failed to arrive for her regular church service, something officials described as highly out of character.
During the investigation, authorities discovered blood on the front porch of the home. DNA testing confirmed it belonged to Guthrie. Nanos declined to say whether there were signs of forced entry.
“We are not discussing that at all, whether it’s forced entry or not,” he said.
Adding another unsettling layer to the case, investigators revealed that ransom notes have surfaced. FBI Special Agent Keith Janke said law enforcement is treating them seriously, though their authenticity has not been fully verified.
One note referenced an Apple Watch, while another mentioned a floodlight. Janke declined to share further specifics, citing the integrity of the investigation.
Officials also confirmed that the individuals believed to be behind the ransom notes have not responded to a public video released by Savannah Guthrie and her siblings earlier this week. The family made an emotional plea for information and expressed their willingness to communicate.
“The family is ready to talk, get proof of life because there has been no contact after that ransom note,” Janke said.
Despite the grim details, law enforcement officials say they have not lost hope. Nanos stated that investigators are continuing to analyze forensic evidence, review digital data, and interview potential witnesses while following up on tips from the public.
Family members have continued to plead for Nancy Guthrie’s safe return and urged anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact authorities immediately. As the search continues, officials made clear that they are pursuing every lead and will not stop until answers are found.
