The 60-year-old governor also admitted that he had already spoken with Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and other Democrat leaders to explore options to go after ICE agents.
“We’re talking to the state’s attorneys and Attorney General to see how they can go at this because what we want to make sure is that they follow the law,” he said.
This isn’t the first time Pritzker has positioned himself as a leading voice of resistance against federal immigration enforcement. Over the past several months, as Trump’s immigration policies gained momentum again, Pritzker has increasingly aligned himself with left-wing activists determined to block deportations and obstruct ICE operations.
“This is a dangerous time,” Pritzker claimed. “The President of the United States is causing mayhem in the grounds of our state. He is going after his political opponents.”
”I don’t know why anybody would look at the situation and not recognize he’s moving toward an authoritarian regime in his own image.”
While thousands of illegal aliens continue pouring into sanctuary cities like Chicago, Pritzker seems more focused on attacking Trump and law enforcement than addressing the real crisis on the ground.
Over the weekend, the Illinois governor expressed frustration that fellow Democrats were not showing enough public support for his anti-ICE agenda.
“ I understand there are people who’ve stood up, I want to say, and we should give kudos to those people,” he said during a conversation with The New Republic.
“I think Cory Booker has been terrific. I think that we’ve seen people standing up—Chris Murphy, Gavin Newsom—you know, there are people who are regularly calling it out. Right. But I wonder about lots of other folks.”
The comments underscore the growing divide in the Democratic Party over how aggressively to oppose Trump’s immigration crackdown. While some high-profile figures are backing Pritzker’s radical stance, others remain cautious, likely aware of how unpopular open-border policies have become with many voters.
Pritzker has also been floated as a potential presidential contender in 2028, and this latest episode may be part of his strategy to build a national profile among the progressive base. But according to the latest RealClearPolitics polling average, his support sits at just around five percent—trailing behind Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris, and Gavin Newsom.
As ICE continues to carry out its mission, the governor’s remarks raise serious concerns about the growing hostility from Democrat leaders toward federal law enforcement. For many Americans, this is not just about immigration — it’s about whether elected officials will stand with the law or against it.
