Voters in Massachusetts were told for years that sanctuary policies only protect “hardworking families.” The ugly truth is on full display after federal agents filed an immigration detainer against a man local police say bolted from arrest and had to be subdued with a taser before sunrise.
Officials say the suspect, Manuel Umana Solorzano, 29, is an illegal alien from El Salvador now facing a slate of stomach-turning charges. Police reports list rape of a child with force, possession of child pornography, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, photographing sexual or intimate parts of a child, and lascivious posing or exhibition of a child in the nude. This is the exact profile of offender that sanctuary rules place back on the street when they block cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
ICE is not mincing words about what should happen next. “This pedophile should have never been in our country. ICE lodged an arrest detainer to ensure local authorities don’t release this creep back into American neighborhoods,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. The agency wants custody if the suspect is released from local jail so he can move straight into federal removal proceedings instead of slipping through a loophole.
