Republican lawmakers and activists wasted no time slamming the changes. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) warned that the proposal is a dangerous “red flag.”
Parental rights advocate Scarlett Johnson delivered a fiery response, calling out the Democratic governor for attempting to “erase” women and the very concept of motherhood.
“Instead of using the word mother, he crossed out mother and put persons who are inseminated, persons who can be inseminated, or person who gave birth, parent who gave birth, anything but say mother, woman. Those are words he can’t say because the woke won’t let him. Folks won’t let us define what a woman is,” Johnson said in a video statement.
She continued, blasting Evers for pushing radical gender ideology over biological reality. “A biological female with a uterus and two ovaries gives birth to a child. Only a woman can. That’s a female. That’s what I am. I’m a mom, a mom of five kids in Wisconsin. And Governor Evers, you are not going to erase me and you are not going to erase all the moms in Wisconsin. You are not going to erase women. We’re not going to let you. I don’t know what’s wrong with Democrats. I really don’t.”
The Republican Governors Association (RGA) also weighed in, slamming the proposal as an insult to mothers everywhere.
“Being a mother is the greatest privilege I will have in my lifetime, and every mother I know feels the same. If Tony Evers can reduce motherhood to an ‘inseminated person’ then our society is lost,” said RGA executive director Sara Craig.
The move by Evers aligns with a broader leftist push to dismantle traditional definitions of gender and family roles. However, conservatives aren’t standing by silently.
The battle over language is heating up nationwide, with former President Donald Trump making it clear where he stands. In a direct response to radical gender ideology, Trump recently signed an executive order titled Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.

Under the order, Trump declared that the federal government will officially recognize only two sexes—male and female—stating they are “not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.”
While Trump works to undo the left’s attempts at rewriting biological truth, Governor Evers appears to be doubling down on the woke agenda. But Wisconsin parents and conservatives are making one thing clear—they won’t let their families be erased without a fight.
