Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Sears appeared on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures to address the Biden-Harris administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) lawsuit against Virginia’s efforts to clean up its voter rolls. Hosted by Maria Bartiromo, the conversation centered on the legal challenge filed against the state for removing non-citizens from its voter registration lists—a move that the DOJ claims violates federal law.
Earlier this month, the Justice Department announced that it was suing the Commonwealth of Virginia, along with its State Board of Elections and Commissioner of Elections. The lawsuit aims to block Virginia’s alleged “systematic program” of purging voter rolls, citing concerns about how close this action comes to the upcoming November 5th general election. The DOJ argues that this violates the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) of 1993, which imposes specific restrictions on when and how states can remove individuals from their voting lists.
