Watch: Trump Makes Leaders Sweat

Europe’s Failures Exposed

Trump didn’t stop at general criticism. He called out Europe’s mishandling of migration and their inability to end the Russia-Ukraine war despite years of talk about unity and strength.

“They talk, but they don’t produce results, and the war continues nonstop,” Trump said when asked about Europe’s role in Ukrainian peace negotiations.

He left no room for doubt, noting that he could tell the difference between competent and incompetent leaders. “I know the good leaders,” he said. “The bad leaders, the smart ones, the stupid ones.”

The President also warned that several European countries could face collapse due to “catastrophic” migration policies.

Zelensky Struggles Amid European Delusions

Trump’s harsh assessment of Europe coincided with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky juggling meetings with European leaders who promise aid but deliver little.

On Monday, Zelensky met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in London, in what was billed as a show of European solidarity.²

Trump, however, was unimpressed. “It would be nice if he would read it,” he said of Zelensky and the latest American peace plan. “You know, a lot of people are dying. So it would be really good if he’d read it.”

The former president added that Ukraine must start “accepting things” as its military struggles.

Trump also reminded everyone of an inconvenient truth European leaders refuse to acknowledge: Russia has the “upper hand. And they always did. They’re much bigger. They’re much stronger,” he said. “At some point, size will win.”

He further criticized Ukraine’s leadership for avoiding elections, accusing them of “using war not to hold an election” and warning, “They talk about a democracy, but it gets to a point where it’s not a democracy anymore.”

The peace plan Trump proposed would require Ukraine to cede territory in the east, limit its military, and pledge never to join NATO.³ European leaders encouraged Zelensky to reject these terms, using the London summit to try and weaken American proposals in favor of maximalist Ukrainian demands.⁴

Europe’s Risky Game With American Patience

What Europe seems to misread is Trump’s seriousness about walking away from guaranteeing their security. The new National Security Strategy signals the end of the post-World War II American defense umbrella.

For the past year, Europe relied on flattery and delay tactics, hoping Trump would continue underwriting their defense. That strategy has now backfired spectacularly.

Trump sees the situation clearly. European leaders boast about supporting Ukraine but contribute little, then lecture America about moral responsibility to fund their failures. The Politico interview makes it clear: Trump’s patience is gone.

He won’t allow France, Germany, and Britain to dictate American foreign policy by pressuring Zelensky to reject reasonable peace terms.

Europe Has a Choice

Trump will broker a peace deal regardless of European approval. Leaders in Paris, Berlin, and London face a stark decision: work with the American plan or watch from the sidelines as the U.S. and Russia settle the conflict.

Trump made one thing crystal clear—he doesn’t need Europe’s permission. And the panic among European officials proves the point: decades of relying on American strength have left “weak” leaders scrambling when they finally have to take responsibility for their own security.
