A fiery street interview is going viral online after a self-described liberal activist abruptly ended a conversation when confronted with uncomfortable questions about the Iranian regime—and the glaring silence from many Western activists about its brutality.
The exchange featured Younes Sadaghiani, who partnered with the YouTube channel Street Smart to interview students at King’s College London. Sadaghiani posed a pointed question that many critics say exposes a double standard in modern activist politics: Why do so many Western “social justice” campaigners speak loudly about Palestine but rarely protest the violent repression of the Iranian people?
Sadaghiani’s perspective is shaped by personal experience. Born in Iran under the rule of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he later moved to the United Kingdom as a child. Rather than framing himself primarily as a victim of the regime he fled, Sadaghiani has built a reputation online for challenging narratives he believes oversimplify global conflicts into a rigid “oppressed versus oppressor” framework.
During the interview, Sadaghiani argued that this ideological lens often leads activists to overlook atrocities that don’t fit neatly into their preferred political storyline.
