Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who once fancied himself a political bridge-builder, made a head-turning appearance at Harvard Kennedy School this week. During a forum event, Walz revealed something almost too ridiculous to believe — Kamala Harris supposedly tapped him as her running mate because he could “code talk” to white men.
Yes, really.
According to Walz, Harris chose him because “I could code talk to white guys watching football, fixing their truck” and “put them at ease.” His bizarre admission gives a painful glimpse into the Democratic Party’s flailing, tone-deaf approach to winning back the working-class male voters they’ve been hemorrhaging for years.

Predictably, that strategy flopped — and badly. Instead of rallying men to the Democratic cause, Harris and her allies watched male voters of every race abandon the party in droves. Despite attempts at identity politics and awkward pandering, Democrats still can’t figure out why ordinary Americans don’t trust them anymore.
