Volkswagen Just Made a Move That SHOCKED Drivers

Car ownership used to mean exactly that — you paid for a car, and every piece of it belonged to you. But now automakers are experimenting with new ways to squeeze more cash out of their customers.

Volkswagen just pushed the envelope in a way that has drivers everywhere fuming.

Paying Rent on Power You Already Own

Volkswagen’s latest money grab comes in the form of a “subscription” for horsepower. In the United Kingdom, drivers of the company’s ID.3 electric vehicle are being asked to fork over extra cash every month for performance that is already built into their cars.

For £16.50 per month — about $22.50 — owners can flip a digital switch to bump their horsepower from 148 to 168. There’s also a yearly plan for £165 or a so-called “lifetime” option for £649, which stays with the vehicle even if it’s resold.
