House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries is facing growing political blowback after a major redistricting plan in Virginia was struck down by the state’s highest court, dealing a serious setback to Democrats’ efforts to reshape the balance of power in the U.S. House ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

The now-invalidated map was widely expected by Democrats to produce a lopsided 10–1 edge, a dramatic shift in a state that has remained politically competitive in recent years.
