Ukraine unleashed an extraordinary wave of long-range drones against Moscow and other parts of Russia over the weekend, striking a major oil refinery and bringing the war directly to the Russian capital as voters cast ballots in parliamentary elections.
Russian officials described the operation as the biggest Ukrainian drone assault Moscow has faced since the war began.
The massive attack unfolded overnight into Sunday, the final day of Russia’s three-day parliamentary election. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian defenses had intercepted more than 1,600 drones since Saturday, with approximately 450 reportedly heading toward the capital. Russia’s Defense Ministry separately claimed 1,110 Ukrainian drones were destroyed overnight across Russian territory, occupied Crimea and the Black Sea.
