Trump Floats New Canada Tariffs — Over Wildfires

President Donald Trump signaled Friday that Canada could face additional economic consequences as thick wildfire smoke once again poured across the northern border, blanketing large portions of the United States with hazardous air pollution.

The president argued that Americans should not have to bear the health and financial costs of recurring wildfire smoke drifting south from Canada, suggesting that any damages imposed on the United States should be reflected in future trade policy.

The remarks come as Canada continues to battle one of its most active wildfire seasons, with hundreds of fires burning across multiple provinces. Many of the blazes remain out of control, forcing evacuations, disrupting transportation, and sending massive plumes of smoke into neighboring U.S. states.
