Trump’s Revenge Tour Claims Another Victim

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

Cassidy has never fully recovered with the Republican base after siding with Democrats during Trump’s impeachment trial in 2021. At the time, he joined six other GOP senators in voting to convict the former president over the January 6 Capitol riot, a move that infuriated Trump supporters across Louisiana.

Now those voters appear to have returned the favor at the ballot box.

Trump wasted no time celebrating the outcome.

“Congratulations to Congresswoman Julia Letlow on a fantastic race, beating an Incumbent Senator by Record Setting Numbers. This is the first time in History that a sitting Senator has lost by such large numbers in a Primary, unable to even go forward,” the president posted on Truth Social following Letlow’s win.

Trump also praised Letlow as a reliable ally who would support his agenda in Washington.

“Julia Letlow is a fantastic person and, after taking care of some additional business, will make a brilliant Senator for the Great People of Louisiana, a State that I love, helped make prosperous with my Energy Policies and everything else, and won six times in a row, including Primaries.”

Then came the knockout punch aimed directly at Cassidy.

“Bill Cassidy, after falsely using his ‘relationship’ with me during his political career, and winning Elections because of it, voted to impeach me on preposterous charges that were fake then, and now, are criminally insane! His disloyalty to the man who got him elected is now a part of legend, and it’s nice to see that his political career is OVER!” Trump wrote.

The defeat marks a stunning downfall for Cassidy, who first entered the Senate in 2014 and once appeared politically untouchable in Louisiana. But over the past several years, grassroots conservatives increasingly viewed him as disconnected from the Republican base, particularly after his impeachment vote.

Meanwhile, Letlow built her campaign around full alignment with Trump and the America First movement. The congresswoman consistently emphasized border security, energy independence, conservative judges, and support for Trump’s second-term agenda.

That strategy clearly resonated with Republican voters.

Even before Saturday’s primary, polling suggested Letlow had become the overwhelming favorite. A recent Quantus Insights survey showed her leading Fleming in a potential runoff by nearly six points, while a sizable portion of voters remained undecided.

Despite the humiliating loss, Cassidy attempted to strike a gracious tone after the results became clear. He congratulated both Letlow and Fleming while acknowledging the outcome was not what he had hoped for.

Still, the message from Louisiana Republicans could not have been clearer.

In one of the reddest states in America, Republican voters just sent a longtime senator packing and elevated a Trump-backed conservative who openly embraced the president’s movement from day one.

Now all eyes turn to the June 27 runoff, where Letlow enters with momentum, Trump’s endorsement, and a Republican base that appears eager to finish the job.
