Trump tapped Bruce for the State Department post in January, continuing his trend of bringing conservative media figures into key positions. Bruce’s journey has been a political transformation in itself — once a Democrat and self-described liberal activist, she shifted her allegiance to the conservative movement and fully embraced the MAGA agenda.
Stepping In Amid Global Tensions
Bruce’s nomination comes as the United States remains without a permanent UN ambassador. Former national security adviser Mike Waltz has been nominated for the top spot, but his confirmation is still awaiting a full Senate vote.
If confirmed, Bruce will assume the deputy role during a turbulent time for American foreign relations. The Trump administration’s unwavering support for Israel — especially amid mounting global criticism over its Gaza operations — has placed the U.S. at odds with several traditional allies.
The deputy representative position requires Senate confirmation, meaning Bruce will face questioning from lawmakers before officially taking on the job.
Taking on Russia and Standing with Trump
Bruce recently found herself in the headlines after appearing on Fox News to discuss President Trump’s latest stance toward Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the segment, host Harris Faulkner noted Trump’s growing frustration with Moscow despite his efforts to broker peace in Ukraine. The president made his feelings clear:
“I’m not so interested in talking anymore. He’s — he talks, we have such a nice conversation, such respectful and nice conversations. And then people die the following night in a — with a missile going into a town. Russia could be such, so rich right now. Instead, they spend all their money on war. They spend everything on war and killing people, and it doesn’t make sense to me.”
After former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev responded with a veiled threat, Faulkner asked Bruce for the State Department’s reaction.
Bruce’s reply pulled no punches. “Well, obviously, we know where President Trump stands. He’s been very patient. He’s made a commitment to diplomacy. We’ve seen that over and over again. And he’s transparent when it comes to his thoughts in the moment, as we’ve seen. He’s not happy. He’s not been happy with Putin for quite some time. He’s made it clear what the problem is, and we’ve got a lot of tools in our tool chest, certainly the president does. I think that what President Trump isn’t bothered by is bluster or posts on a social media account. This is serious business. There’s carnage. Innocent people are dying every day, and clearly, I think Russia understands that when President Trump says something, he’s serious and they need to take him seriously.”
The Bigger Picture
For conservatives, Bruce’s rise to such a prominent diplomatic role represents another example of Trump surrounding himself with allies who not only share his vision but are willing to speak forcefully for it on the world stage.
If the Senate approves her nomination, Bruce will take her media savvy and unapologetic pro-America stance straight into the often-hostile arena of the United Nations — a move that is certain to rattle global elites and delight the MAGA base.
