In a bold move sure to stir controversy, President Donald Trump has taken direct aim at Walmart, accusing the retail behemoth of using tariffs as a scapegoat to jack up prices for American shoppers.
Trump, never one to shy away from corporate accountability, blasted the multinational chain on Thursday after it floated the possibility of price hikes as early as next month. The former president didn’t mince words, calling out the company’s massive profit margins and suggesting that Walmart, not its customers, should absorb the cost.
“Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain,” Trump wrote in a post. “Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected. Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, ‘EAT THE TARIFFS,’ and not charge valued customers ANYTHING. I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!”
