Los Angeles descended further into chaos Sunday night as violent mobs clashed with law enforcement for a third straight day—prompting former President Donald Trump to unleash a scathing rebuke of city and state leadership while calling the violent agitators “insurrectionists” for the first time.
The streets of LA looked more like a war zone than a major U.S. city, as rioters launched bikes, fireworks, and large rocks from an overpass at police vehicles. The situation escalated so severely that officers were seen ducking for cover near U.S. Route 101, with some ultimately forced to retreat under heavy fire.
“You see the size of those rocks, that could easily kill somebody,” an ABC 7 anchor reported live during the mayhem, capturing the moment when law enforcement found themselves hopelessly outnumbered and under siege.
Anchors expressed disbelief that the violence was allowed to spiral for so long without decisive intervention. “Officers were currently running for their lives,” one stated, describing the chaos unfolding on live television.
