Governor Kathy Hochul tried to pin a massive commuter rail meltdown on President Donald Trump. But Trump wasted no time firing back and turning the political disaster into a brutal spotlight on New York leadership failure.
As hundreds of thousands of Long Island commuters scrambled through another miserable morning of delays, packed buses, and predawn alarms, Hochul’s public blame game appeared to backfire almost instantly.
The president blasted the Democrat governor on Truth Social over the weekend after she accused the Trump administration of helping trigger the Long Island Rail Road strike.
Trump did not mince words.
“Failed New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, a Dumacrat, just blamed ME for her Long Island Railroad Strike, when she knows, full well, that I have nothing to do with it,” Trump wrote Saturday.
Then came the line that sent political observers into overdrive.
