A newly surfaced report is fueling fresh debate over the Trump administration’s diplomatic efforts with Iran, claiming that a proposed 60-day memorandum of understanding contains a wide-ranging framework aimed at reducing tensions across the Middle East while opening negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
According to reports cited by the New York Post, Israeli media has outlined what it says are the major provisions of the proposed agreement. The document itself has not yet been officially released, and many of the reported details remain unconfirmed.
Among the reported provisions is a broad ceasefire designed to halt military activity throughout the region. That reportedly includes fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, the Iran-backed terrorist organization based in Lebanon that has repeatedly exchanged fire with Israeli forces.
The reported framework also addresses Iran’s nuclear program. Under the proposal, Iran would once again pledge that it will not develop a nuclear weapon. The reports indicate that the memorandum does not resolve the long-term question of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium. Instead, Tehran would reportedly maintain its existing nuclear activities during the 60-day period while negotiators continue discussions over what restrictions would ultimately be included in a permanent agreement.
