In a move shaking up global defense politics, President Donald Trump has announced a massive weapons deal with NATO allies that could funnel tens of billions into American arms manufacturing—and possibly deliver a hard slap to Vladimir Putin’s ambitions in Ukraine.
Speaking Monday in the Oval Office alongside his Cabinet, Trump dropped the bombshell agreement, which ensures NATO partners will lean heavily on U.S. defense contractors for military hardware over the next several decades. The deal, he revealed, puts NATO nations firmly on the hook for the cost of advanced American weaponry.
“We’ve made a deal today where we’re going to be sending them weapons and they’re gonna be paying for ’em,” Trump told his advisors. “The United States will not be having any payment made. We are not buying it, but we will manufacture it and they are going to be paying for it.”
