Trump Just Greenlit the First New Refinery in 50 Years

For decades, the United States has produced massive amounts of oil while relying on an outdated refinery system built for a completely different era. The result has been a strange and costly contradiction: American energy flowing overseas while foreign crude continued pouring into U.S. refineries.

Now, President Donald Trump says that era is about to end.

In a major announcement that could reshape the country’s energy landscape, Trump revealed plans for the first newly constructed U.S. oil refinery in roughly half a century. The project is designed specifically to process American shale oil, marking a dramatic shift toward a fully domestic energy supply chain.

The announcement comes at a moment when global energy markets remain volatile and tensions in the Middle East are pushing gasoline prices higher. Trump framed the refinery as a long overdue correction to a structural flaw in America’s energy system.

According to Trump, the new facility will ensure that American crude is refined in the United States rather than being exported while foreign oil fills the gap at home.

He called the agreement “the biggest deal in US history.”
