A fiery political dust-up has erupted between President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk after Musk publicly torched Trump’s signature spending package — the “Big Beautiful Bill” — in a scathing tirade on social media. What began as a critique of pork-barrel spending quickly escalated into a personal and political rift between two once-friendly power players.
The blow-up began when Musk unleashed a blunt post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “I just can’t stand it anymore,” and labeling the bill a “disgusting abomination.” He continued, “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. You know you did wrong. You know it.”
The bill — a massive piece of legislation now under debate in the Senate after narrowly clearing the House — includes sweeping tax cuts and spending reforms that the Trump administration has championed as historic. But Musk isn’t buying the hype. Instead, he took aim at what he sees as runaway government waste.
But Trump isn’t letting Musk’s criticisms go unanswered. Speaking during a joint appearance with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump laid into Musk, offering a laundry list of reasons for what he views as a sudden shift in tone from the Tesla and SpaceX CEO.
