The Trump administration just sent a political earthquake through Pennsylvania, warning the state that tens of millions in federal dollars are about to be yanked after officials allowed a foreign national — flagged for terrorism ties — to obtain a commercial truck license.
Federal regulators revealed that Pennsylvania’s licensing agency failed a series of basic safety obligations, green-lighting commercial driving documents for individuals who never should have been anywhere near an 18-wheeler. The Department of Transportation’s letter to state leaders accused Pennsylvania of issuing licenses without confirming legal presence, a violation that could wipe out $75 million in federal funding unless immediate action is taken.
This storm erupted after the arrest of Akhror Bozorov, an illegal migrant from Uzbekistan who, according to U.S. officials, was wanted in his home country for alleged extremist involvement. Investigators say Bozorov pushed radical propaganda online and worked to recruit others — all while holding a Pennsylvania-issued CDL that allowed him to legally operate a massive commercial vehicle on American roads.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy didn’t mince words. He blasted the state for enabling a national security failure and warned that the administration is done tolerating reckless mismanagement.
