Trump Immigration Win: What They’re NOT Telling You!

In a significant decision that could shape how asylum claims are reviewed across the country, the Supreme Court delivered a unanimous ruling siding with the federal government on Wednesday. Writing for the Court, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson clarified that federal appeals courts must give substantial deference to immigration authorities when evaluating whether asylum applicants have demonstrated sufficient persecution to qualify for protection under U.S. law.

The case, Urias-Orellana v. Bondi, centered on a family fleeing violence in El Salvador. Douglas Humberto Urias-Orellana, along with his wife Sayra Iliana Gamez-Mejia and their child, entered the United States in 2021 seeking asylum after what they described as credible threats against their lives. According to court filings, the family claimed they were targeted by a known sicario—a hired killer—who had already shot two of Urias-Orellana’s half-brothers.

Urias-Orellana further alleged that individuals connected to this attacker repeatedly attempted to extort money from him. He also reported being physically assaulted during one of these encounters. These claims formed the backbone of the family’s argument that they faced serious danger if forced to return to El Salvador.
