The former president ended his message with a demand that CBS correct history. “Since they bought it, 60 Minutes has actually gotten WORSE! Oh well, far worse things can happen.” He then wrapped it with a pointed message. “P.S. I hereby demand a complete and total APOLOGY, though far too late to be meaningful, from Lesley Stahl and 60 Minutes for her incorrect and Libelous statements about Hunter’s Laptop!!!”
Within an hour, Greene fired back with a jab of her own. She highlighted Trump’s acceptance of donations from AIPAC while noting she took none. Her post ended with “I AM AMERICA FIRST. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MTG.”
During her “60 Minutes” interview, Greene had already been stirring controversy. She accused Republican colleagues of mocking Trump behind closed doors and only pretending to support him when it benefited them. She said, “I watched many of my colleagues go from making fun of him… making fun of how he talks, making fun of me constantly for supporting him. When he won the primary in 2024, they all started, excuse my language, kissing his a**, and decided to put on a MAGA hat for the first time.” She also claimed that Trump’s criticism of her had triggered death threats aimed at her family.
Her grievances did not stop there. She faulted GOP leadership for focusing too heavily on foreign issues and failing to produce serious policy work on health care. That friction became unavoidable once Trump stated plainly that he would not support her reelection. Rather than face a likely Trump-backed primary challenger, Greene announced an early exit from Congress through a lengthy letter and video where she blamed political threats and what she described as an entrenched establishment working against regular Americans.
Trump’s response made it clear reconciliation is not in the cards. He wrote, “Marjorie is not AMERICA FIRST or MAGA, because nobody could have changed her views so fast, and her new views are those of a very dumb person.”
Her tense interview with Lesley Stahl also produced sparks. The veteran host suggested that Greene contributed to today’s heated political climate, telling her, “But you contributed to that. You. You, you were out there pounding, insulting people.” Greene shot back immediately. “Lesley, you’ve contributed to it as well. You’re accusatory, just like you did just then.” When Stahl insisted, “I don’t insult people,” Greene repeated, “You do. The way you question. You’re accusing me right now.”
What began as a quiet political cooling-off has now erupted into a full-scale public feud. With Trump ramping up his 2026 influence and Greene preparing to step away from Congress entirely, the split is not only damaging but symbolic. One of the loudest pro Trump voices is now one of his loudest critics. And Trump is making sure voters understand that the break was not his doing.
The only question now is how far this political drama will spread and who in the Republican Party will dare pick a side next.
