A political shockwave rippled through the MAGA movement this week after reports claimed Steve Bannon — the fiery “War Room” host and former Trump strategist — might be gearing up for a 2028 presidential run.
The speculation began when the Daily Mail cited “well-placed sources” claiming Bannon was in “the early stages of planning an audacious run for president.” The idea alone sent Washington insiders into a frenzy, as such a move would pit him directly against Trump’s current vice president, JD Vance, who many see as the heir-apparent to the MAGA mantle.
According to the outlet, Bannon has strong views about the vice president’s readiness for the fight ahead. A source alleged Bannon privately remarked, “Love him … but Vance is not tough enough to run in 2028.”
The report came just days after Donald Trump himself hinted that Vance might be the favorite to carry the torch, while also floating the possibility of pairing him with another familiar Republican face — Marco Rubio. “Well, I think most likely. In all fairness, he’s the vice president, and I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form,” Trump told reporters earlier this week.
