The man who spent more than a decade claiming to champion baseball players’ rights just got caught looking out for himself.
Federal investigators in New York have been scrutinizing the finances of Tony Clark, the longtime head of the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA). What they discovered appears so severe that Clark couldn’t even make it to spring training on Tuesday before announcing he was stepping down.
Players who relied on him are now facing the most critical labor showdown in decades without a leader. Thanks to Clark, they’ve essentially walked into a knife fight empty-handed.
