Shirley later released the full 42-minute investigative video, outlining the scope of what he says is an unprecedented fraud operation. He wrote, “We uncovered over $110,000,000 in ONE day. Like it and share it around like wildfire! Its time to hold these corrupt politicians and fraudsters accountable.”
As public anger mounted, Minnesota GOP Whip Tom Emmer weighed in forcefully, calling out the governor directly on social media. Posting on X, Emmer demanded answers from Walz over blatant red flags ignored by state leadership, writing, “4 million dollars of hard-earned tax dollars going to an education center that can’t even spell learning correctly. Care to explain this one, Tim Walz?”
Instead of responding to the allegations or ordering a transparent audit, Governor Walz doubled down—choosing to attack the journalist himself. In public remarks, Walz dismissed the investigation and accused Shirley of racial animus, claiming the reporting was rooted in bigotry rather than facts.
“This is what happens when they scapegoat and this is what they happens when they no longer hide the idea of white supremacy,” Walz said of the investigation.
Shirley responded during an interview on Fox News, pushing back strongly against the governor’s accusations and asserting that the real motivation behind Walz’s response was political self-preservation.
“Tim wants VOTES. There are entire apartment complexes where White people have been pushed out of these apartment complexes because Somalis have taken over and they’re inside of these towns like Minneapolis – where they can go and go get votes from these people!”
Shirley went on to warn that ignoring fraud for political gain is destroying public trust and eroding accountability in Minnesota.
“And if you have 100,000 people that will vote for you because you’re going to enable and let this stuff happen and because you’re going to call White person racist for calling out facts, this is what’s going to happen to a state like Minnesota.”
He also described widespread frustration among everyday Minnesotans who feel abandoned by their state leadership.
“Minnesotans, they say Minnesota nice, but they are very upset. And I fully understand why they’re upset because they don’t have a governor who’s actually working for them, that he’s actually working against them!”
As the investigation continues, the potential scope of the fraud is growing rapidly. Some estimates suggest the total theft of taxpayer funds tied to Somali-linked nonprofit and childcare networks in Minnesota could exceed $9 billion. Even more alarming, new scrutiny is emerging over whether portions of those funds were funneled overseas.
An explosive investigative report by journalists Ryan Thorpe and Chris Rufo has raised serious concerns that Minnesota taxpayer dollars may have been diverted to al-Shabaab, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization operating in Somalia.
If confirmed, the implications would be staggering—not only exposing one of the largest welfare fraud scandals in American history, but also implicating state oversight failures in the indirect financing of terrorism.
As pressure builds, Minnesotans are demanding answers. The question now is whether state leaders will finally confront the corruption—or continue attacking those brave enough to expose it.
