The US Troop Withdrawal Request Was Rejected

By  |

Ex-President Barack Obama made a daring decision to launch a serious intervention in Syria back in 2014, which led to an incredible eight years of American military engagement. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), unfazed by the past, bravely put up a resolution to put a stop to this attempt and remove all US military off the Middle Eastern theater. Unfortunately, the resolution was soundly defeated in the halls of power.

On March 8, the House of Representatives decisively defeated the War Powers Act resolution with a vote of 321-103 in a remarkable change of events. Less than a thousand American soldiers remain in Syria, yet despite this, the US military is still engaged in combat with the remaining danger of the once-powerful Islamic State. Gaetz reportedly raised serious concerns about the resolution’s justification, saying that “900 Americans who have been sent to this hellscape with no definition of victory” are what are preventing an Islamic State rebirth.

On the House floor, Michael McCaul (R-TX), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, voiced his opposition to the measure. He assured them that the US is not at war with the Middle Eastern country of Syria by letting the troops to stay there. the armed forces “is conducting limited but important counterterrorism operations.”

Gaetz’s resolution received the support of 47 Republicans and 56 Democrats in a stunning show of unity.

Congress makes a determined effort to grab back control of war powers from the executive branch in an effort to assert their constitutional authority once more. As a result of the casual usurpation of this crucial duty by several presidents, the United States has found itself uninvitedly drawn into international wars. This daring effort to restore the balance of power is led by Gaetz’s resolution, which guarantees that the authority to declare war stays with the legislature as it was intended.

Gaetz published a statement after the vote denouncing the choice. He said that the US has “no role” in Syria. He continued by stating that American forces “tried to build a democracy out of sand, blood, and Arab militants” Middle Eastern. Despite the vote’s failure, he said that his fight to halt the endless conflicts had only begun.
