A tense Senate hearing erupted into one of the most dramatic confrontations of the year when Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson directly challenged Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison over deadly unrest tied to immigration enforcement operations in Minneapolis.

What began as routine oversight quickly turned into a blistering rebuke. Two Minnesotans are dead. Federal officers had reportedly faced escalating violence. And Johnson made clear he believed state leadership had poured gasoline on an already volatile situation.
Ellison, seated before the panel, listened as Johnson laid out a timeline he said the national press had largely ignored.
According to Johnson, federal immigration agents were already operating under extreme pressure. He cited reports of ICE officers being fired upon during lawful operations. Federal vehicles were allegedly rammed. Rocks were thrown. Officers conducting enforcement actions, he argued, were facing organized hostility.
And instead of urging calm, Johnson accused Minnesota Democrats of doing the opposite.
“I can’t imagine encouraging somebody that supported me politically to go and put themselves into harm’s way,” Johnson said. “Particularly when you know that these law enforcement officials had been shot at.”
