The battle for Los Angeles City Hall is becoming one of the most closely watched races in the country as former reality television star Spencer Pratt finds his once-comfortable lead steadily narrowing with each new batch of ballots counted.
Pratt, who stunned political observers by finishing strongly in Tuesday’s primary election, remains in second place for now. But the momentum appears to be shifting toward far-left City Council member Nithya Raman, whose support has surged as election officials continue processing thousands of late-arriving mail ballots.
The race has become a textbook example of why critics continue to raise concerns about California’s lengthy vote-counting process.
While incumbent Mayor Karen Bass has already secured enough support to advance to November’s runoff election, the fight for the second and final runoff spot remains unresolved days after voters cast their ballots.
The latest figures released by Los Angeles County election officials show Pratt holding 163,549 votes compared to Raman’s 130,473. Although Pratt still maintains a sizable lead, recent voting trends have alarmed his supporters.
