Shots Fired After ICE Agents Hit in Ramming Attack

Federal immigration agents came under violent attack during a routine enforcement operation in Maryland this week, forcing officers to open fire after a suspect allegedly attempted to run them down with a vehicle. The incident underscores the increasingly dangerous environment faced by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers as assaults against federal agents continue to surge nationwide.

The confrontation unfolded shortly before 11 a.m. on the 500 block of West Court in Glen Burnie, Maryland, a residential area located in Anne Arundel County’s Parke West neighborhood. ICE agents assigned to Enforcement and Removal Operations were conducting an immigration enforcement detail when they approached a white van connected to their investigation.

According to law enforcement officials, the situation escalated rapidly. As agents moved in, the driver of the van allegedly attempted to use the vehicle as a weapon, steering toward the officers in what police described as an effort to run them over. Faced with an imminent threat to their lives, ICE agents discharged their firearms at the vehicle.

Despite taking gunfire, the van did not immediately stop. Authorities say the vehicle accelerated away from the agents and ultimately crashed or came to rest in a wooded area behind nearby homes. The dramatic sequence left residents stunned and prompted a large emergency response from local and federal law enforcement.
