During President-elect Donald Trump’s visit to the U.S. Capitol, a potentially dangerous incident unfolded just blocks away. Capitol Police arrested a man who allegedly attempted to ignite a car in flames near the Grant Memorial on Wednesday evening.
The United States Capitol Police were alerted to the situation around 5:30 p.m., a time that coincided with Trump’s meetings with Republican senators. The President-elect was also paying his respects to former President Jimmy Carter, who lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda.

According to police reports, the suspect, a 35-year-old man from Virginia whose name was not disclosed, set a bag on fire atop a vehicle. Officers quickly intervened as the fire extinguished itself before spreading. The man was taken into custody and charged with Unlawful Activities.
