Senate Democrats are once again setting their sights on law enforcement — this time, targeting the men and women on the frontlines of immigration enforcement. A new bill introduced Tuesday would strip federal immigration agents of the ability to protect their identities during dangerous operations, even as threats against them continue to skyrocket.
The proposal, spearheaded by Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Alex Padilla (D-CA), would mandate that agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) wear clearly visible identification at all times. This includes names, badge numbers, and the agency they represent — even during public enforcement actions that often involve high-risk encounters with criminal illegal aliens.
The bill also includes a ban on face coverings for federal immigration officers during enforcement operations. The timing couldn’t be more baffling — with agents increasingly targeted for violence, Senate Democrats want to strip away even their most basic protections.
