In a bold move, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner has rejected Asheville, North Carolina’s staggering $225 million disaster relief request. The reason? A hidden Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) clause that prioritized ideology over real disaster victims struggling to rebuild after Hurricane Helene.
During an interview with Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo, Turner made it clear that HUD will not tolerate DEI-driven policies when allocating disaster relief. He slammed Asheville’s initial action plan for using race and gender identity as deciding factors in aid distribution instead of focusing on those most in need.

“This draft action plan that the city of Asheville presented at first has elements of DEI, and that is not acceptable to HUD,” Turner told Bartiromo.
