In a chilling escalation of violence at the southern border, a gunman clad in tactical gear launched a deadly ambush on Border Patrol agents early Monday morning outside a federal facility in McAllen, Texas. Armed with a rifle and ready for confrontation, the suspect opened fire in what officials are calling a “purposeful attack” on federal law enforcement.
This brazen assault marks the second such incident in Texas in just a matter of days. Over the weekend, a police officer was wounded in the neck during an apparent ambush outside the ICE Prairieland Detention Center near Alvarado, just south of Dallas-Fort Worth. That officer survived, but the details surrounding the group responsible remain murky.
In the McAllen attack, multiple sources confirmed that the gunman was taken down on-site after local police and federal agents returned fire. The assailant was killed outside the annex facility, where photographs from the scene showed his lifeless body sprawled on the pavement near the entrance.

Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin was among the first to break the story, reporting:
“BREAKING: Three federal & TX law enforcement sources tell me an active shooter with a rifle & tactical gear ambushed Border Patrol agents as they arrived at a Border Patrol annex facility in McAllen, TX this morning. Local police and federal agents returned fire, killing him. I’m told this was a purposeful ambush/attack against federal agents and a press conference is planned for later this morning. No federal agents injured. Im told a McAllen police officer may have been shot, but is in stable condition.”
