Richard Gere: “I’m Coming Back” — Here’s Why

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

It’s a pivot that few saw coming—especially after Gere’s dramatic 2024 departure from New York City, where he’d lived since his early adulthood. In interviews last year, he sounded all-in on his overseas move, praising Spanish culture, lifestyle, and his wife’s heritage.

Trading Big Apple Skyscrapers for Madrid Sunsets

Speaking to Vanity Fair Spain last year, Gere had framed the move as a fair trade within his marriage.

“She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so I think it’s fair that I give her at least six others living in hers,” he said.

The decision, he explained, was as much about giving his children a taste of Spanish life as it was about honoring Alejandra’s roots.

“For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture,” Gere added.

At the time, he had nothing but praise for Spain, calling the lifestyle “fabulous” and lauding the country’s ability to live with “joy and happiness.”

But it wasn’t just an easy transition for the longtime New Yorker.

“New York gets in your blood. It’s very hard to remove that. It infects your DNA. But I love Spain too. I love Madrid,” Gere later told Fox News Digital.

Missing Home, Missing Family

Now, Alejandra’s latest comments suggest the allure of Spain may be fading. The pull of American life—and family—seems to be calling the couple home again.

“I’m with my family . . . I missed them a lot. But I miss the U.S. So we come back and forth,” she told Daily Mail.

Despite her happiness in Spain, the emotional tug-of-war between continents seems real. The couple is now eyeing a long-term strategy to split their time between both nations.

Soulmates Across Borders

It’s clear the couple has navigated these changes hand in hand. Their relationship, forged in the aftermath of divorces over a decade ago, remains rock solid.

“We are like soulmates,” Alejandra told Elle España. “We have the same values, we see the world in the same way and from the first moment we felt that we had known each other for a long time.”

And Gere? He’s still head-over-heels for his wife.

He praised her “glow” and highlighted her “genuine sense of graciousness, of gratitude, of generosity.”

Family First

The couple shares two sons, ages 5 and 4. Silva also has a third son from a previous marriage, and Gere has a 24-year-old son from his past relationship with Carey Lowell.

Last Christmas, Alejandra posted a heartfelt photo of the kids decorating their tree in Spain with the caption: “this year finally, Christmas in Spain!”

But as much as Spain seemed like their forever home, it now appears the G ere family can’t quite shake their American roots.

From the outside, it might have looked like Gere and Silva were saying goodbye to America for good. Now? It seems their transatlantic love story is just getting started—with one foot in Europe, and the other planted firmly back on U.S. soil.

Stay tuned. Richard Gere’s return might just be the next big twist in his Hollywood story.
