As the investigation continues, Kimberly Meyer released a statement through police expressing gratitude to investigators, first responders, and members of the public who have reached out in support.
“I have great confidence in the Lafayette Police Department’s investigation and want to thank all the agencies involved for their work,” she said. “We are also incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from the community; everyone has been so kind and compassionate.”
She also highlighted the efforts of emergency responders following the shooting.
“We would also like to thank the medical personnel who provided care and assistance to us following the incident,” she added.
Judge Meyer serves on the Tippecanoe Superior Court and is a well-known figure in the local legal community. News of the attack quickly spread among judges across the state after Indiana Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush circulated a letter alerting members of the judiciary to the shooting, according to reports.
Local leaders did not mince words in condemning the violence. Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski called the shooting senseless and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Meyer family,” Roswarski said. “I want to ensure the community that every available resource is being used to apprehend the individual(s) responsible for this senseless unacceptable act of violence.”
The mayor also voiced strong confidence in law enforcement, praising the cooperation between agencies and thanking local, state, and federal authorities for stepping in to assist with the case.
At this stage, investigators have released few details about potential suspects or motives. No arrests have been announced, and police have not said whether the judge may have been targeted due to his position on the bench. However, the involvement of the FBI underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating the incident.
Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible. Tips can be directed to the Lafayette Police Department at 765-807-1200 as the investigation remains active and ongoing.
The shooting has renewed concerns about the safety of judges and public officials, particularly in an era of rising hostility toward institutions of law and order. For many residents, the fact that the attack occurred at a private home in broad daylight has only deepened the sense of unease.
As investigators work around the clock, the community continues to rally around the Meyer family, hoping for their full recovery and for swift justice in a case that has rattled Indiana and drawn national attention.
