Republican strategist Luke Ball, appearing alongside Bond on National Report, shared a blunt assessment of Harris’s chances outside of California. While acknowledging her potential in a gubernatorial race, Ball was less optimistic about her national prospects. “If she ran anywhere else in the country, I don’t think she’d be able to get elected to dog catcher, unfortunately,” he said.
Ball also criticized the Democratic Party’s campaign strategies, suggesting a lack of focus and financial mismanagement during Harris’s recent efforts. “Because if I’m a donor, if I’m a Democrat, I’m looking at this race and I’m seeing that we’re paying millions of dollars to celebrities to astroturf the campaign instead of spending that money on critical resources,” he explained. Ball also pointed out the need for internal reforms, echoing the changes Republicans implemented after facing similar challenges.
“Paying $5,000 for having their nails done,” he added, highlighting questionable spending decisions. “Like the RNC went through this just over a year ago and we cleaned house ahead of the election. And I think that if I’m a Democrat strategist and I’m operating within the DNC, I’m having the same thought process.”
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump couldn’t resist commenting on Harris’s financial woes following reports that her campaign was in debt for up to $20 million despite spending a staggering $1 billion. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Trump mocked Harris’s financial situation, writing: “I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over.”
In typical Trump fashion, he added a tongue-in-cheek jab: “Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others. Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do.”

As discussions over Harris’s political trajectory continue, even some Democrats seem to believe her path forward is murky at best. Bond’s comments encapsulate the frustration and uncertainty within her party, particularly regarding whether Harris’s leadership can energize voters and secure future victories. On the other hand, Republican voices like Ball argue that Harris’s time in the national spotlight has done little to bolster her credibility.
Harris’s next steps will undoubtedly draw scrutiny, especially if she decides to pursue the California governorship or another bid for the presidency. For now, the political landscape remains divided over whether “staying in the fight” is the right choice for the embattled vice president.
