A high-profile dispute between federal and local law enforcement has erupted into a national controversy, after allegations surfaced that critical DNA evidence in a kidnapping investigation was mishandled—delaying what could be the most important breakthrough in a case that has now stretched beyond 100 days without resolution.
At the center of the storm is former intelligence official turned federal figure Kash Patel, who publicly criticized the handling of evidence by Pima County authorities during the early stages of the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, a case that has gripped the nation and left investigators searching for answers.
Speaking during an appearance on Sean Hannity’s podcast on May 5, Patel sharply questioned how the investigation was managed in its critical opening days. He said federal investigators were effectively sidelined when speed mattered most.
“For four days we were kept out of the investigation,” Patel told Hannity. “The first 48 hours of anyone’s disappearance are the most critical.”
