In March 2022, Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) approved a new legislation that forbids the use of sensitive teaching materials in classrooms. This regulation gives parents even more control by enabling them to decide what constitutes sensitive content and request the removal of particular publications. A school district has banned the Bible as a consequence of a parent using this prerogative.
A parent petitioned to have the religious material taken down in December. In order to demonstrate that they broke the law in accordance with the new instructions, the nameless individual also provided eight pages of excerpts. Thank you, the complaint said “Utah Legislature and Utah Parents United for making this bad faith process” So simple and effective. The complainant said that the Bible was especially distressing since it includes violence and lewd content. According to the new regulation, it is by definition sexually explicit and has “no serious values for minors.”
The Davis School District decided to remove the Bible from the libraries of its elementary and middle schools after giving it great thought. High school students can still have access to the book, though. It is noteworthy that a call has been made for the Bible to be put back in all school libraries.
A district representative, Christopher Williams, told The New York Times that the request was handled “just like any other request.” The Book of Mormon has also been requested to be taken off of the shelves by another person.

The allegations against the Bible and Book of Mormon, according to Utah Parents United Curriculum Director Brooke Stephens, were attempts to “to minimize the real concerns of parents.” She continued by stating that if individuals are adopting the Bible as a starting point, even more volumes could need to be removed off the shelf.
