Dhillon’s Letter Just Rattled Every Secretary of State

The Department of Justice’s top civil rights official issued letters to election leaders in every state and the District of Columbia, making it clear that federal authorities expect voter registration rolls to comply with federal law. The move marks one of the most aggressive election-integrity initiatives undertaken by the Trump administration since returning to office.

For years, Democrats and left-wing advocacy groups dismissed concerns about noncitizen voting and inaccurate voter registration records, often arguing that such problems were rare or insignificant. Now, the DOJ is signaling that election officials who fail to follow federal requirements could face serious consequences.

According to reports, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon sent the letters on July 7 and demanded answers regarding how states are ensuring that only eligible citizens remain on voter registration lists.
