A stunning federal indictment has pulled back the curtain on what prosecutors say is one of the most brazen betrayals inside American law enforcement in years. A former senior official who once handled high–level financial operations for the Drug Enforcement Administration under Barack Obama now stands accused of attempting to help one of Mexico’s most violent cartels move cocaine, clean millions in drug money, and even discuss high-powered weapons and explosives.
Undercover Sting Exposes Shocking Allegations
Federal prosecutors say Paul Campo, who rose through the DEA ranks before retiring in 2016, believed he was dealing directly with operatives from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, a group so dangerous the United States designated it a Foreign Terrorist Organization earlier this year.
Instead, Campo and his longtime associate Robert Sensi were allegedly speaking to a federal confidential source posing as a cartel member. That sting operation ultimately triggered their arrests after months of meetings and recorded conversations.
