During questioning by Senator Dick Durbin – a longtime opponent of deportations – another protester erupted from the gallery, shouting:
“Keith Porter Jr. and Dr. Linda Davis, they were Americans killed by ICE. Say their names. Their black lives matter.”
She too was removed. But the protesters’ narrative ignored the facts.
Linda Davis Was Killed by an Illegal Alien, Not ICE
Linda Davis did not die at the hands of ICE. She was killed by Oscar Vasquez-Lopez, a 38-year-old Guatemalan national ordered deported in 2024.
On the morning of February 16, 2026, ICE agents attempted a lawful enforcement stop. Vasquez-Lopez initially complied, then fled, running a red light and striking Davis’ car less than half a mile from her school.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin did not mince words: years of left-wing rhetoric demonizing ICE and encouraging resistance to federal law made tragedies like this inevitable. “The law was clear: fleeing federal law enforcement is a felony, and it kills innocent people,” she explained.
The fatal outcome was a direct consequence of Vasquez-Lopez’s choice to run, not the enforcement efforts of ICE. The protesters attacking the agents have their story entirely backward.
Angel Families Watch in Silence
What stood out at the hearing were the Angel Moms – parents who lost children to crimes committed by illegal aliens.
As activists shouted in support of immigrants who should have been deported, Angel families stood in quiet defiance. One parent confronted the protesters:
“You want to know who we are? We’re families who lost loved ones to illegal alien crime.”
The contrast was stark. While Democrats built a political system prioritizing the protection of illegal immigrants, Angel families have waited for years for justice for Americans taken too soon. Tuesday, they were there to bear witness.
Democrats Chose Their Side
Senator Durbin’s line of questioning during the protest was telling. While the chaos unfolded on his side of the gallery, Durbin attacked Secretary Noem rather than acknowledging the systemic failure that allowed Vasquez-Lopez to remain in the country.
Democrats have blocked DHS funding, resisted mass deportations, and supported sanctuary policies. A federal judge had already ordered Vasquez-Lopez deported in 2024 – yet the Biden administration’s DHS did nothing.
Linda Davis paid the ultimate price.
The protesters at the hearing were not honoring her memory. They were weaponizing her death to attack ICE agents enforcing a law meant to protect Americans. Secretary Noem refused to let the truth be buried.
