Nancy Guthrie Case Escalates With FBI Move

Federal and local authorities dramatically escalated their response this week in the troubling disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, as investigators zero in on what they increasingly believe was a calculated abduction.

By midweek, the Federal Bureau of Investigation formally joined the case, bringing with it specialized resources that signaled just how serious the situation has become. FBI K-9 units, forensic teams, and hostage negotiation specialists were deployed to Guthrie’s Tucson-area home in the upscale Catalina Foothills neighborhood, where law enforcement once again sealed off the property with crime scene tape.

Investigators focused their attention on disturbing evidence uncovered at the residence. According to reports, a Ring doorbell had been removed from the home, and blood was discovered near the entrance. These details only deepened fears that Guthrie did not leave voluntarily and that foul play was involved.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday night after being dropped off at her home by her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, who is reported to be the last known person to have seen her. The adobe-style home, valued at roughly $1 million, sits in a quiet, affluent area that neighbors say rarely sees serious crime.
