New York City hasn’t even sworn in its new Democratic mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, and the chaos already looks like a preview of what’s to come. Law-abiding residents in Queens just watched their neighborhood overrun by a violent street mob, only to be told by 911 operators to call a “quality of life team” instead of police.

On Sunday, Republican Councilwoman Vickie Paladino released footage on X showing a mob taking over the quiet Malba community. The group reportedly spun cars in circles, created a massive disturbance and — according to WNYW — even set a vehicle on fire.
The torched vehicle belonged to security company owner Larry Rusch, who described the ordeal as “a complete melee.” Rusch tried to intervene by positioning his car in the middle of the intersection, hoping to scatter the crowd. “As soon as I did that, everyone started leaving,” he explained. But the calm lasted seconds. “Then two individuals go up to the car. Somehow they threw some kind of firework or something and lit the car up. Then melee started again.”
